Gay Wedding Locations In The State Of California
California is on the brink of equality. California already allows gay civil unions. The California legislature passed a gay marriage bill in 2005, but it was vetoed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. On March 14, 2005 San Francisco Superior Court Judge, Richard Kramer ruled in Woo v. Lockyer that gay and lesbian couples in California have a constitutional right to marry.
He declared unconstitutional the state law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Appeals to this ruling were heard by the First District Court of Appeal on July 10, 2006. The Court must issue its ruling on or before October 10, 2006. The 3 judges seemed to favor Judge Kramer's ruling and will most likely agree with him. We will have to wait and see.
In San Francisco from February 12th til March 11th, under orders from the city's mayor, the city and county of San Francisco issued over 4,000 marriage licence's to gay couples.
