Utah among other states, overwhelmingly passed a gay marriage ban amendment to their states constitution. Utah already has a law defining marriage as being between a man and a woman. Supporters of the amendment wanted it embedded in the states constitution. Fearing that a judge may throw out the law, like in other states.

Gays are not allowed to adopt children in the state as well. Current laws in Utah prevent any single person from adopting in the state. With a gay marriage an as state law, they pretty much have made it impossible for same-sex couples to adopt.
